Original, Vintage Pomeranian Griffin (Gryf Pomorski ) Badge The Gryf Pomeranian Honorary Badge was established on May 31, 1947 by the
resolution of the Provincial National Council in Szczecin as the first regional
badge of honor in Poland. The award appears over the years as several different
versions depending on the year issued: gold with laurel, gold, and silver. It
was awarded to persons for their merited reconstruction of Western Pomerania
after the war. This badge is from 1947 (silvered bronze, brass, or tombac—badge is not
magnetic). An attractive piece, enamels in excellent condition, quite heavy, and very
rare among collectors. On reverse are also initials 'TF' photo 3; there may also be some markings on the suspension ring??? It has with red/blue enamel with the inscription on the rim of the
shield- NIE RZUCIM ZIEMI SKĄD NASZ RÓD (FOR THE PROMISSION FOR WESTERN
POMERANIA). The ribbon is usually blue with a red stripe in the middle but on
this badge it is a blue and white tri-fold. The ribbon does not glow under UV
so it is vintage material of badge age. It may be an incorrect replacement or a
variant. Ribbon has no suspension hanger for badge. NB:The Pomeranian Griffin ( Tajna Organizacja Wojskowa Gryf Pomorski )
was a major Polish resistance organization in the Pomerania region during WW2. It might have had as many as 20,000 members
with about 500 as active partisans.
