WW2 Polish Air Force in Exile 1943 First Die Type Observer Badge by J. R. Gaunt This is an excellent example of an early WW2 badge. This is the model 1942 Polish Air Force Observer badge. This particular badge is an early war (1943) badge which was made in England for the Polish Air Force in exile. This example was made from the first die which cracked and was replaced in 1944 with the new pattern badges made from a new and different die. The badge depicts an eagle holding a wreath in its beak and 3 lightening bolts in its talons. Made of heavy brass, the maker information is cast in the back "J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd, London". It is complete with its single screw post and nut and the chain with wire clip which are often missing. It measures 3 9/16 inches high and 2 5/8 inch width. This badge is in excellent condition for its age, showing minor wear and overall complete. A perfect addition to a WW2 RAF or Polish collection. These badges are scarce, don't miss this one.
