Compounding and polishing paint – selecting the right pad: Achieving a near flawless paint finish is easy if you follow a few simple basics. Meguiar’s DFC5 foam cutting disc is the perfect match with any Meguiar’s compound to remove oxidation, swirl marks, etc. with Meguiar’s MT300 DA polisher. The DFP foam polishing disc, paired with a Meguiar’s polish, maximizes gloss and depth. The DFF foam finishing disc is perfect for applying your favorite Meguiar’s wax. Getting maximum results when compounding or polishing paint Meguiar’s recommends that good lighting be used to visually inspect the paint prior to compounding or polishing. Wash and dry the vehicle thoroughly to remove all loose contaminants. If the paint feels rough to the touch following a wash, a clay bar should be used to remove bonded contaminants. Under strong lighting, either from direct sunlight or using a detailing light like Meguiar’s MT103 Sunlight 3+, visually inspect the paint finish for signs of oxidation, swirl marks, scratches, etchings from bird droppings, and other below surface defects. For moderate to severe defects the DFC5 foam cutting disc works great with any Meguiar’s compound prior to polishing. For very light defects or just to enhance the gloss of the paint, the DFP5 foam polishing disc can be used with any Meguiar’s polish prior to applying your favorite Meguiar’s wax. Application Tips Meguiar’s recommends working clean, and not overusing any compound or polish. How-to For best results, ensure car is cool to the touch and in the shade Affix the DFC5 cutting disc to the DBP5 backing plate on a Meguiar’s MT300 DA polisher Apply a ring of your favorite Meguiar’s compound to the disc about ½” in from the edge Set polisher speed to approx. 4800 opm and place the disc firmly against the paint before turning on the polisher Using moderate pressure and slow movements, work an area roughly 2’ x 2’ in a cross hatch, overlapping motion When the compound appears very thin on the surface, but before it disappears completely, stop compounding and immediately wipe off the residue with a Supreme Shine Microfiber towel Inspect your results and repeat if needed, or move on to the next 2’ x 2’ section Add more compound as needed, but do not over use Clean the pad frequently with a pad brush or compressed air Continue working section by section until all defects are removed
